For many years, the area was used only for mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing and horseback riding. Because Scottsdale is bordered by other cities on the west, south, and east, development grew northward, into the area of Pinnacle Peak. In 1982, a large area of land including Pinnacle Peak was annexed by the city of Scottsdale. A distinct part of North Scottsdale, Pinnacle Peak is situated within the shadows of Pinnacle Peak Mountain. Today, Pinnacle Peak is home to a family-friendly community, beautiful real estate, and excellent schools. The future plan of Pinnacle Peak includes residential and commercial real estate ventures and recreational facilities.

At the end of January through early February, the Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Scottsdale hosts the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament. It attracts more than 500,000 spectators each year, more than any other golf tournament in the world. Each February, the Arabian Horse Show takes place at Westworld, just a few minutes drive from Pinnacle Peak. Competitors arrive from across the country to participate in one of the largest horse shows in America. Neighborhood associations hold “block parties” and take part in special interest clubs.
